Building Committee

The building committee is a selected group of church members who are entrusted with the church facility planning. Their involvement begins from the initial design inception and lasts through the construction process. This selected group will act and respond during each phase of the building program. They will constantly gather information from the church congregation and, with the aid of the Architect, organize these ideas into what will become the final constructed facility. The final goal being a facility that embraces the church's ministry objectives, thus creating a tool for God's work.

Bus Ministry

NEED A RIDE TO CHURCH EVENTS?

JUST LET THE OFFICE KNOW
TO SCHEDULE YOUR RIDE.

We can send the bus or get a church member to pick you up.

Our bus kids here at Blackrock walk in like they belong. That’s how we want them to feel when they get here. Each child has the message of “you’re important” instilled into them each day they’re with us.

This ministry provides children, and families a ride to church. Most often parents opt to not attend, but are eager to send their children. Drivers and bus captains have the opportunity to be that great godly parental influence in the children’s lives that they wouldn’t otherwise receive.

Our Bus Captain and their assistants work hard to make the program on the bus – to and from church – an exciting time of songs, Bible lessons, contests and promotions.

Captains help aid the driver with directions, as well as entertaining the children on the ride.

Currently our ministry picks up families in the Blackrock/Chester area.

There is no charge to ride our bus.

Children's Church

The vision that fuels our work in children’s church grows out of Jesus’ words in Mark 10:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” In the midst of a consuming ministry to adults, Jesus regularly ministered to children. We believe the future of the church depends on effective ministry to children today.

Children's church meets Sundays 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday 7:00 p.m.

Church Reader Board Sign

The church reader board sign is a tool to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the community. The sign message is just one tool among many that God has given us to spread his word. It is a tool that stays working for God even when we are not.  The messages on the reader-board sign is probably the one ministry that is the most visible to the community.

The Blackrock's evangelistic outreach  ministry has the task of evangelizing and discipline the hurting people of the world, with the message of hope and plan of Jesus Christ.

We endeavor to equip our members on this matter, to reach the wider community with the Gospel of Christ's salvation.

Finance Committee

The finance committee is to assist the staff in achieving the vision God has given the church by reviewing the use of the financial resources, with the result that:

• The Pastor, Ministers, and key leaders have current and accurate financial information and workable procedures so that they can focus their energies on leading, shepherding, and equipping the congregation.

• The congregation has trust in the financial information, procedures and audits, so that they can participate more fully in ministry.

• The essential value of the Committee shall be that church personnel are eminently trustworthy and the role of the Committee is to validate the trust in their financial transactions.

• The source of our financial values and principles is the Bible. Thus, our purpose
is to obey God and adhere to our biblical ethics. We follow governmental regulations because government is an authority given by God for peace and security of society.

Greeters

A greeter is equipped for his or her ministry by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These spiritual gifts are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to make their ministry effective and build up the body of Christ.

When a person steps into a church for the first time, he or she evaluates the atmosphere. He asks himself: “Will they accept me? Will it be easy to make friends? Will my spiritual and personal needs be met? Will it be easy to find my way around? Will my family like it here?”

The newcomer will quickly come to some conclusions during the first few minutes. First impressions are often lasting impressions. Consequently, the ministry of the greeters is one of the most important things that happens in any congregation! Sometimes it is called “foyer ministry.”

Although a greeter’s love should be no stronger than is the love found in the rest of the body of Christ, nevertheless the greeter performs a major role in ensuring that people see and experience that love. In Christ, you have received God’s unconditional love, and, in Christ, you are called to extend that same unconditional love to others. The ministry of greeting is perhaps one of the most crucial in the church because it is one of the most visible. It is a ministry vital to the saving work of the church.

Media Ministry

Imagine coming to church and straining to hear the music, the announcements, the preaching, or not being able to hear them at all!

The Sound Booth technicians and their computer assistants provide a critical service for all of us. They setup (and tear down when necessary) the musical and sound equipment, adjust the levels and come early for rehearsals for all those who participate in the music program (and they deal with a lot of different preferences!!), record the services, project lyrics and sermon notes on the screen and keep up with everyone's suggestions!

The audio side of this ministry assists in controlling the sound reinforcement equipment, setting levels and maintenance of microphones and other equipment.

The video side of this ministry assists duplicate video and audio recordings of services and events for those who cannot attend services at the church.

The technology side of this ministry assists the church in maintaining the computer systems and peripherals, including workstations, the network, access, printers and other computer related equipment.

The communication side of this ministry assists the church in coordinating all public printed and multimedia communications to ensure that all publications and presentations have a consistent look and hold true to the church's mission. The communication committee can assist in supporting projects by helping to clarify the communication objectives, identify the target audiences, develop clear and coherent messages and select the appropriate channels to best deliver the message at hand. The communication committee is responsible for the content produced for fliers, newsletters, the church bulletin boards and other opportunities to publicly communicate church events to the public.

The internet side updates the website, making changes, creating and deleting church email accounts and communicating with the server service provider to ensure consistent quality in service.

Missions Ministry

The missions ministry assists in coordinating all local, regional and international missions
activity within the church and support for other related items.

The missions ministry seeks to lead the congregation in proclaiming Christ's love for us by living out God's call to mercy and justice. We do this by intentionally building connections with others across boundaries of neighborhood, class, race, and national borders. Our faith charges us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.

Traditionally this committee helps guide our congregation's time, talents and treasures with those in need locally and globally. They provide hands-on volunteer opportunities for the entire church family. Some of Mission's projects include serving meals for the elderly, sponsoring children in the Nassau County area, raising donations and helping with the church's food pantry.

The New Testament provides direct, clear instruction to the church concerning financial support of those who minister to us.

Those who are taught the Word must share in all good things with their teacher. -- Galatians 6:6

The laborer of Christ deserves to be paid. -- Luke 10:7

We are a church, but our congregation is also an "employer." In this role we have the responsibility to make sure we do all we can to take care of the needs of those who serve us, as good stewards of the church's financial resources.

Secret Sisters

The purpose of this ministry is just away to bring the ladies in our church together and for us to lift each other up. It allows us to let our Secret Sister know that you are thinking of her on her birthday, on special occasions or sad occasions, during the month, etc. We all love to receive gifts and letters of encouragement. That is part of this ministry but not the purpose of it. We are here to not only keep each other strong, during our journey here on earth, but it allows us to get to know one another and bring us closer in unity so we may all become stronger women of God.

Ushers

When people come to church they are sometimes burdened, sad or discouraged. Each person, member or newcomer, comes with the hope that the service will be an experience of uplift and inspiration, a time of renewal and celebration. The skillful usher helps to make this a reality for those in attendance.

Although an usher’s love should be no stronger than is the love found in the rest of the body of Christ, nevertheless the usher performs a major role in ensuring that people see and experience that love. In Christ, you have received God’s unconditional love, and, in Christ, you are called to extend that same unconditional love to others.

The ministry of ushering is one of the most crucial because it is one of the most visible in the church.

What is Christian Service?

"Quote:  Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."

We as Christians should minister by meeting people's needs with love and humility on Christ's behalf. We are to minister to others out of our devotion to Christ and our love for others, whether the other people are believers or unbelievers. Ministry to others should be impartial and unconditional, always seeking to help others as Jesus would.

For Christians, worshipping isn’t just about going to church; it is also about serving others. It is an activity carried out by Christians to express or spread their faith, it is "carrying forth Christ's mission in the world." Christian service is rooted in love, as a response to the love of God toward us.

Serving the Church comes directly from Jesus' teachings. In Mark 9:33-34, we are told that the disciples were arguing about which of them was the greatest. In Mark 9:35, Jesus said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all." In John 13, Jesus began washing his disciple's feet. In doing this, he gave the example to us of serving others. He said that even though he was the Lord and Teacher, he still is serving them, showing that one must serve to be like him. When asked what the greatest commandment is, Jesus said that the Greatest is to love God, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:34-40).

The reason that serving is so important has to do with the nature of God. In 1 John 4:7, as well as in other places, we are told that, "God is love." In verses 20-21 we are told the impact. "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother." This is because, when you become a Christian, you allow God to dwell in your heart. Since God is love, we are to love others to show our love. The way that we show love is to serve. In Galatians 5:13, we are told to "serve one another in love". In Galatians 5:14 the reason is given, "The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."" And in Galatians 6:2, we are told that the law of Christ is to carry each other's burdens.

Overall, the reason that Christians serve is because through his love Christ gave his life that we might be able to live with him, and he wants us to share that love with others by serving in whatever ways we can.

We pray that both parents and children will feel at home in our nursery. Our primary purpose is to facilitate and enhance your family's time of worship, study and service at Blackrock by providing a safe, sanitary, and loving environment for your child.

Our Baby & Toddler Ministry is an exciting and vital ministry at Blackrock Baptist Church. It is more than a babysitting service it is a launching pad for the faith of the next generation.

We view it as a place of prayer for the children, a place where they can learn simple truth statements as they form their language skills, and a place where they hear foundational Bible stories.

Our Baby & Toddler Ministry is well staffed by our church members who love children and will take good care of them. We serve newborns through three years old.

EVERY CHILD CARE WORKER HAS BEEN SCREENED FOR SAFETY.

  Children's
Children are a gift from God. We treasure the time we have with them to provide building blocks for a solid life foundation that is strongly established on the Word of God.

The purpose of our Children's Church Ministry is to help children know God, have faith in God, and live victoriously through God. We provide an atmosphere where children have fun while learning God's Word. Our teachers bring the Bible to life for each age group. We serve 2 years old through 6th graders.

We have Awana on Friday night from August to May. Awana is for children age 2yrs - 6th grade.

During the summer we are going to centri-kid camp.

For those of you who do not know about Terrific Tuesdays, the children come to the church from 9-3 and we go on a field trip and then back to the church for Bible study and games. You will hear more about this later.

  Youth
Blackrock youth group is where it’s all about Jesus working in the lives of today’s students. The youth ministry here at Blackrock is about reaching today’s students with the gospel of Jesus, it’s about student’s ministering to one another; it’s about living out God’s word.

Whether we gather for our Wednesday night praise services or just go to hang out at the beach, we desire to show the love of Christ first and foremost.

THE MAN OF INTEGRITY
WALKS SECURELY

Blackrock Baptist Church’s men's ministry is dedicated to helping men be the godly men God calls us to be. A godly man is a servant, not a slave master. Being a spiritual leader does not mean dominating your family. It means serving your family, and being a godly example to your wife and children.

The mission of our men's ministry is to provide men with resources to develop godly character, and to equip them to influence their world for Christ. Becoming a Christian is not a destination; it is the beginning of a life-long journey.

  Women's
  Jane Skaff

THE WOMAN OF FAITH IS THE HEART OF THE FAMILY

We believe that God passionately loves women and has a wonderful purpose in mind for them. Women are strong, resourceful, passionate, and loving. When women give
themselves completely to God’s service, watch out! God has greatly used women in His workings down through the ages.

Our women’s ministry is built on God’s Word and relationships. It is designed to cultivate godly, feminine, Christian women. In today’s culture, women long for a connection with others. They often feel very alone. Therefore, we love to have fun together! All of the women’s ministry’s activities are planned to be enjoyable. But fellowship and fun are balanced with the chance to grow in knowledge and faith.

Why should we study the bible? The simple answer is because God in His word tells us to 2Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are exhorted to preach the word and to be able to defend it. 2Timothy 4:2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Scripture is the tool God has given us and it is our duty to study it, know it, and apply it. 2Tmothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Studying the bible develops an appetite for God’s word and allows for spiritual growth: Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' "

We must nourish our physical body with food. Without food our body begins to grow weak and can not function to its fullest potential. In this condition we can not properly perform our duties at home or the work place. We become ineffective and worthless. As our physical body needs nourishment, so does our spiritual part. If we do not take in a regular intake of bible doctrine, we become worthless as servants to God. To be strong spiritually and be good stewards we need a steady diet of His word.  1Peter 2:2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,

By feeding on God’s word we will become mature Christians. As believers we have a hunger that can only be satisfied by God’s word, anything else will leave us feeling hungry.

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Studying the bible gives us the opportunity to know God and to reveal His character: God is not an inanimate object but a living God. As believers we should know God on a much more personal level then the world. We learn through His word that He is a loving God offering comfort, peace, and mercy. He is our hope and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who is our savior. The attributes of God and His love is probably a endless list but by studying His word we will develop a greater appreciation and a thankful attitude toward God as we see Him unfold in the scriptures. If we do not know God, how can we love and appreciate what he has done for us?

Ephesians 3:19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Studying the bible helps us know the truth: As students of the bible, we must not trust the authority of man, but search the scriptures to see what God says. We must study the bible with diligence and prayer.

Acts 17:11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

It is important to have prayer and communication with God so that the Holy Spirit can teach us.

1Co 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Truth is important, especially when it is God’s truth. If we study God’s word, we will know His truth and we will be able to recognize a lie when we hear one.

1John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Discover the truth and do not be carried down the path of deception

2Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

Studying God’s word protects us from traveling down this road.

  Prayer Chain Warriors
Prayer Chain Warriors are individuals dedicated to praying for others through intercessory prayer, or in other words, praying on someone else's behalf. The term 'Prayer Warrior' refers to the act of taking up a defense (proactive or reactive) for another in prayer. Similar to how a solider takes up the defense of their country for the good of others, without asking anything in return.

Many Prayer Warriors believe they are called or lead to pray for others; that by praying for others they intercede with God on behalf of the person or group they are praying for.

The Blackrock  Baptist prayer chain will start with a call to the first person on the list. The first person will call the next person on the list. The last person will call the first person on the list to make sure the chain has been activated.

  Cottage Prayer Meetings
The cottage prayer meeting is one of the most powerful means Christ uses today for the salvation of men. It is a small band of Christian people that meet for prayer and testimony. It is in these small home gatherings that so many members build trust with others.

  Unbroken Prayer Chain
Prayer chains are a chain of people who pray in a sequence, creating an unbroken perpetual prayer. If you haven't been a part of an unbroken prayer chain before you won't want to miss this opportunity to spend some time with the Lord!
